LET'S GO YOU BOYS IN BLUE!!!

So yesterday we went to see our first pro Football (aka soccer) game.  It was Sydney FC vs Central Coast mariners. Let me tell you Aussies are into their football. It is a very special experience so if you ever get the chance to see a game with Aussies do it and let me tell you why.

They love the game so much and are so passionate about the game that they like to yell and swear a lot.  One of the things that I find funny is how they yell at the ref if he is not calling fouls, then when he finally does call something they yell "welcome back ref" or "glad to see you found your whistle". They have an entire section of fans called "the cove".  These fans know 23 chants by heart.  I'm serious there are 23 different chants (look it up).

The game was in a temporary stadium because they are building a new stadium.  The temporary stadium was about the size of the stadium Halifax is getting this summer.  There was probably 3000 people there, all of them wearing jerseys, all with a thick Australian accent, and there was the Lacalejos' dad chanting along. I guess his Mexican blood was coming out. The downside of the temporary stadium is that there was no shade and it was blazing hot that day.

I thought the teams were pretty evenly matched although I thought Sydney controlled most of the game but they could not put it away to the back of the net. It was a fun game and the final score was 1-1.

The stadium was under the flight path to the airport.  We watched huge jets fly overhead.
